Cookbook PhotoShoot - Rewarding Experience

As we wrap up this year 2024, I wanted to pause and reflect on a few projects, one of which was a beautiful cookbook shoot. At the beginning of this year, Elana Benjamin, a writer, reached out to me about publishing her cookbook that tells the story of Indian Jewish people. It was an exciting moment and a dream come true for any food photographer to see their work in print, especially shooting recipes for a cookbook. This was my third cookbook, and I was thrilled to embark on the journey once again.

There were many rounds of discussion, and I firmly believe that crafting a thorough moodboard set us on the right path. Since Elana is from a Jewish background and follows Jewish customs, we shot the photos in her house using only her props. She had collected beautiful tablecloths from a recent trip to India and some stunning props that perfectly resonated with her vision for the cookbook.

The shoot was spread over four days, with breaks in between to prepare well. Since it was just Elana and me, we needed those breaks to prep and shoot properly. Kimberly, the designer, helped us with the wireframe, and the result was spectacular. The launch of the book was surreal, and it has since been mentioned in many places, making the experience incredibly rewarding.

Reflecting on the cookbook project, it's important to acknowledge the incredible support we received. The cookbook was funded by the Jewish Museum of Australia, and special thanks go to Roslyn for her unwavering support and belief in our vision.

This project was truly a collaborative effort, and I'm grateful to everyone who contributed to making it a reality. The experience has been incredibly rewarding.

Reflecting on this project, it's clear how much collaboration and preparation go into creating something truly special. I'm grateful for the opportunity to work on such meaningful projects and look forward to more exciting ventures in the future.
